The heroines of the red carpet.
Lets face it, although we all buy into the hype of awards season, the glitz, the glam the sheer opulence and extravagance of it all, it can all get a bit boring after a while. Its repetitive to a point where you'd almost rather watch that episode of Big Bang where Leonard's mother visits goes on the piss with Penny and ends up kissing an unsuspecting Sheldon on repeat for several hours than hear the same nominees, the same winners and the same speeches. Not to mention the same old predictable dresses. The awards cliché. You know the ones I'm talking about the strapless silhouette, the full or fishtail skirt, the princess complex. Like many of the type cast roles that these stars and starlets have become famous for their choice of colour and designer have become well practised and over acted, Paddy Power wouldn't make a bean off some of them!
None the less after becoming completely enthralled in the forth comings and under achievements of last weekends Golden Globes I feel compelled to give you my synopsis on the less exciting and in some cases exceedingly predictable (Jennifer Lawrence I am looking at you) Screen Actors Guild Awards and its respective red carpet moments. To narrow down a short list of the best dressed at last nights event was well, simple. Seeing as the list of looks that weren't mind numbingly boring and clichéd was minimal.
Amidst the sea of sameness that is award season red carpets was a glimpse of a new breed of starlet style. My shortlist for the best dressed at the SAG Awards may be predictable in that it includes the eternally elegant Cate Blanchett and the impeccable icon that is Amy Adams but it is different in that it showcases a new fearless, modern elegance that is peeking its head up in Hollywood.
First off is Cate Blanchett who wore a striking Givenchy blush pink gown with a scarf like front. There was sequins trim but the placement was so unexpected that it courted everyone's attention. This lady never falters.
Kerry Washington is another best dressed regular. In an embellished pink Prada crop top and High waisted full skirt she proves that you can wear a crop top when your pregnant! She is blooming and ticks all the boxes by thinking outside of the box.
Amy Adams was a vision in regal blue Antonio Berardi. The asymmetrical bodice was the star and the precision hair and make up reminiscent of the golden years of Hollywood were the perfect supporting cast.
So there we have it! Who would you pick for the best dressed list? Does the excitement of awards season wear off for you as quickly as it does for me?
