The red carpet at the 71st annual Golden Globe awards was red hot...
Picking out the best dressed men of the night is always an easy task in comparison to the indepth disscussions had over the best dressed ladies. This year as every year there were a handful of standout stunning choices, a few sack the stylist moments and several more that divided opinion and sparked several discussions. Before we get into that here are the ladies that wowed us on the night...
Red was the colour of the night and Lupita Nyong'o set the bar in this beautiful Ralph Lauren caped dress with Fred Leighton jewellery. This look needs no discussion its elegant perfection.
Amy Adams was next to literally take the plunge in this Red Valentino Couture Gown. Amy picked up the Best Actress Award for her role in American Hustle and drew instiration from her characters wardrobe for this look.
Stepping away from the red Caitlin Fitzgerald was a vision in an Emilia Wickstead cerulean vintage inspired creation. This classic and classy silhouette was an inspired look for the actress, the blue complimented her hair and skin tone perfectly and was a real head turner making Fitzgerald a red carpet one to watch. I can't not mention the shoes, picking up on the blue and adding a pop of peachy colour they are the perfect accompaniment to this assymetrical hemline.
Dame Helen Mirren gave the younger stars a run for their money in this jade Bespoke Jenny Packham dress, Bulgari jewellery and Roger Vivier clutch. The Dame never dissappoints on the red carpet and always looks impeccable but i thought she looked exceptionally beautiful on Sunday night and I loved the shades of gemstone green on her alabaster skin.
Best Actress winner Cate Blanchett wowed in this Armani Privé Couture gown. A timeless piece this dress was sheer, the right way. The intricate lace work sets this dress aside from the many black dresses on the red carpet. The oblong shaped cap sleeves and high neck line are very demure and pave the way for the striking backless detail. Truly a perferct performance form the actress.
Sally Hawkins wore Dior Vintage from WilliamVintage. This is reminiscent of Zooeys Oscar De La Renta but much more successful and probably something I would wear myself. I love the beaded top with candy green and pink details and the floorlength satin skirt. Vintage Dior in all its glory and Hawkins wavey fly away hair keeps the look feminine and soft.
After her dramatic Disney princess fall at the awards last year we were all wondering wat Dior Princess Jennifer Lawrence would wear this year and she didn't dissappoint. Lawrence wore a Dior Couture banded gown, truly channeling Disney's Little Mermaid princess Ariel in more ways than one! The black bands on the dress were accentuated by black bracelets on her arm, the styling was masterful. When the actress climbed the steps to accept her Best Supporting Actress award this year she glided gracefully, although her dress had a tiered sihouette cake was far from her mind this year and her stylists advice to "kick and step" was put into practice.
Other ladies of note in the style stakes are...
Lizzy Caplan in an art deco inspired gold and black Pucci dress.
Taylor Swift in pink and black Carolina Herrera.
The ladies who took the plunge. Angela Bassett in Ines di Santo, Julianna Margulies in Andrew Gn and Kate Mara in a futuristic J Mendel.
The best of the bodice brigade. Michelle Dockery in Oscar De La Renta, Laura Carmichael in Viktor & Rolf and Emilia Clarke in Proenza Schouler.
The mermaids. Leslie Mann in Dolce & Gabanna, Kate Beckinsale in Zuhair Murad Couture and Emma Roberts in custom made Lanvin.
