What the hell is up with the colour of this dress???!!!
Okay I may be being a little harsh here but if you have been reading the blog you will know that online shopping is a new thing to me. Infact, up until this purchase I was an online shopping virgin, well, apart from the few items I’d ordered from Zara after trying them on instore but had to wait until I had the funds to buy them later in the week. You see when it comes to clothes shopping I’m a little old fashioned about the whole experience. I like to try before I buy. I’m very tactile and I like to feel the fabric so I know its quality and finish (that might sound a little strange and slightly perverse, but I know I’m not alone). Its also important to me to see the finishings and the fit and most obviously the colour. But, with a friends wedding looming, this friday, and with having great difficulty finding a dress I liked that didn’t carry and abominable price tag, I thought I’d give it a go...
I hauled my cyber surfing finger tips over to ASOS.com and got to work. I’ve got friends who’ve used ASOS in the past and have been really happy and I’m constantly hearing great reviews so I guessed I was in good hands. Infact, the only concern I had after placing the order was if I had ordered the right size, you know how every brand differs... Unfortunately that wasn’t the case... The size wasn’t perfect but that was my fault and I would have gotten away with it, if it wasn’t for the colour!!! You should have seen the horror on my face when on opening the package I was greeted by a day glo glowing florescent pink, that was completely vandalizing the beautiful sophisticated dusty pink dress I’d ordered!! Thats not the colour it was in the online photo’s!!!
The photo’s don’t really do justice to the severe flouro nature of the offending pink lace, in reality its a true highlighter pink, the kind of shade I would associate with Penelope Pitstop... were she on acid!! I totally understand different strokes for different folks, and the true diversity of individual style and taste, however, I most certainly question the competence of the designer who gave the go ahead for such a grossly inappropriate mix of colour! I will admit that being barely on the right side of thirty, I approach neon with great trepidation but for any age demographic it truly surpasses me what compelled them to mix highlighter pink with truly classic dusty pink silk satin and cream vintage look lace! It simply does not work! And that is all bypassing the fact that there is no notion of neon in the photos of the dress on the ASOS website.
So here I am now, disappointed and thrown into a state of full on fashion emergency!! Is internet shopping always a dance with disaster or is this just a rookie mistake? Have any of you got any words of encouragement? Or advice? Or should I just quit while I’m ahead. For now all that I have left to say is... ASOS my ass!
