May the Twenty Thirteen Teddy Girl take the Flatform!
Creepers? Thats so 2011 i hear some of you say, and you would, most definately, be right. It has taken these thick soled punk pedestals a little longer to catch on on the emerald isle, well out here in the sticks anyway!! But after spotting a black suede effect pair in Penneys last week it was very clear to me that the brothel creeper had finally made the transition from cult to mainstream, albeit two years later than anticipated.
The iconic Teddy Boy shoe of choice made its comeback in A/W 2011 appearing on the catwalks of London when Thierry Mugler collaborated with Underground London and Ashish introduced studded black creepers with tipexed doodles and slogans.
So now we’re into the spring of 2013 and the time has come to stand up and take notice because its looking like the brothel creeper is going to be around for a while longer. After all, Karl Lagerfeld has embraced them and when an iconically feminine and lady like label like Chanel gives them the seal of approval, who are we to condemn the creeper? Come on ladies its the height with out the pain!!!
It has occurred to me that perhaps we were a bit put off by the clunky appearance of these stacked crepe soled loafers and were a bit bemused as to how to wear them without looking like we have large black cavity blocks on our feet. Well, the good news is that they go with just about everything, the more contradictory the better, lace, organza, frills and fluff (think the love child of Truly Scrumptious and Sid Vicious), just keep it girlie and feminine to distract from the weight of the large rubber flatforms.
This seasons creepers, flatforms, bloakers whatever you like to call them are distinctly more Teddy Girl than Teddy Boy. Zara have a white soled gold metallic pair that any self respecting magpie would be proud to wear, House of Hackney have gone floral at Urban Outfitters and you can get just about whatever you want at Underground. So be it single soled, double soled, triple soled or wedge give them a chance there soles for the soul with plenty of soul and I’m sold.
