And she didn't carry a watermelon...
Accuse me of being a soppy Sally if you will but this piece reduced me to a blubbering idiot. I am not generally an emotional mess when it comes to scenes of love and romance but these two left me weak at the knees and watery at the eyes. My heart has not been replaced by a squishy pink weepy marshmallow and T.O.M. is not visiting at the moment but i do promise even the coldest bitches will feel a rising warmth in their ice cold hearts and may even experience a little ‘sweaty’ eye (wink, wink) when you watch this.
Since its release in 1987 Dirty Dancing has been a source of romantic ideology and iconography for girls and women the world over. It was THE modern fairytale of the twenty first century. You had Patrick Swayze as the sexy bad boy and Jennifer Grey, the quiet goody two shoes daddy’s girl whose forbidden love conquered all and even won over her dad at the end. It may possibly be the worlds favorite feel good love story, we’ve all seen it at least a dozen times haven’t we?? But it has left a generation of women with a delusional idea of romance and therefore prone to broken hearts because lets face it not every sexy bad boy has a heart like Johnny and not every forbidden love can find acceptance and you can be sure as hell that if you find this sexy bad boy that everyone loves or even just your lovable Joe Soap he’s not going to utter those heart melting words “Nobody puts Baby in the corner” and get down and dirty with some choreography so you can have the time of your life... Or will he???
Terra and Drake Otto tied the knot earlier this year and they treated their guests to an almost perfect performance of the iconic dance. I, like you, have seen you tube clips of this sort before and honestly it usually leaves me in knots laughing at the clumsy footwork, comical hip shaking and the inevitable wallop to the floor for both parties when it comes to the finale. This time however i was overwhelmed with weepy happiness for the loved up couple and a good measure of jealousy too. This girl was lucky enough to find a guy who was willing to put all that time and effort into making sure she had the time of her life. Now theres romance. Most of us will admit, or I will anyway, that when upon the rare occasion i think of ‘that day’, which is usually when another one of my friends are getting married, I have a tiny little dream that this could be my first dance with my sexy bad boy (hey a girl can dream!) but thats quickly quenched by the realization that no man is going to do this on his wedding day. No Irish man anyway! But Drake may just ave rekindled my faith in the male species.
So tell me am I going soft in my relatively old age? Did this make you weepy? Do you dream of this for your wedding day? Or am I just starved of romance? Well Patrick Swayze may have had Hungry Eyes but I’m starting to think that maybe I just have a Hungry Heart... Enjoy the romance!
