Crop tops, belly tops, barely there tops, we’ve been debating over whether or not to bare it in these abdomin advertising editions for quite some time now. The jury may still be out for some but i have news, be it good or bad... they are here for the foreseeable ladies so start crunchin’ cos theres no such thing as spare tire sex appeal!!
Resort 2014 saw more parading of toned torso’s from barely there bandeaus and bralets at Versace and Calvin Klien to baggy belly grazers at Jen Kao and Chanel. Because the resort collections span the winter months its not all about flesh flaunting hooker chic, there is some beautiful layering at Reed Krakoff and grown up modest sophistication teaming body grazing crop tops with ultra high waisted pants a la Sarah Burton for Alexander Mc Queen and waist cinching floor length dresses at Sachin Babi.
With that in mind and the fact that spring summer is drawing to an end in the shops and the summer sales are practically inescapable I thought I’d see what value for money I could get in key crop top pieces that will see you through until this time next year. Afterall if resort 2014 are still going cuckoo over crop tops you can be sure spring/summer 2014 will too!! There is a surplus of belly baring bodycon and definate overflow of neon out there but there are some bargain beauties that nail the resort trends and with a little clever layering should see you through winter and into next summer. So here is what I found.
This one is from River Island and is reduced to €12 euro, it also comes in a smaller stripe priced at just €8. Its a perfect little muti-tasker checking off three resort trends in one, crop top, monochrome and nautical. Its a classic little piece , team over jeans or wide leg pants and sky scraper heels to really nail the resort look.
This baggy cropped t-shirt is from Rihanna for River Island and is reduced to only €8, it comes in several colours black, white, nude, navy and for the adventurous... yellow flouro. Perfect over denim shorts while the sun still shines or try pairing it with a maxi or wide leg pants for a fresher look. In winter it can easily be layered over a tight fitting longsleeve top or on top of a fitted dress with a full skirt, which is also a great alternative for the tummy conscious, afterall we don’t all have washboard abs!!
