Gotta Get Some Of Your Foot Candy Siista!!
Social media can be a chore, sometimes i find myself scrolling through news feeds and updates to the tune of a stomach twirling sense of frustration, why do i bother? Is there ever anything different? Or new? But I can’t stop, theres this inherent fear that if I don’t keep on top of my news feed that i might miss something. Its a fear i know i don’t carry alone, and a fear that i find justified when on one such instance of mind numbing repetitive updates and minutes that turned into hours of my life wasted, I came across something new to satisfy my sweet tooth. Foot Candy so sweet that they satisfy the sole... pun intended.
Miista by Laura Villasenin is a shoe brand unlike any other. Villasenin founded Miista in 2010 after graduating from Cordwainer’s School in London. She chose to base her design studio in Hackney, London and I’m not surprised. Hackney is sprouting amazing affordable shoe designers quicker than my mothers flower bed is sprouting weeds at the minute (no doubt the weeds are due to this ridiculous irish weather) adding Miista to the already celebrated House of Hackney, it has become the new stomping ground (hehehe I couldn’t resist) for London’s up and coming stars and a whole new sole generation. Two years after Miista’s first collection and Villasenin’s inspired vision, to create statement footwear transcending the conventionality of trends and instead aiming at the independent minded consumer and all at affordable prices, her brand is well and truly on the way to being a household name.
The spring summer 2013 collection “Electromancer” is awe inspiring. Its aesthetic is wacky, retro and futuristic with just the right amount of weird to create a delectable collection, think something like ‘The Jetsons’ meets Twiggy. The space age inspiration is far out but the end result is a collection that is most definitely in. Miista’s “Electromancer” materials are wildly Jetsonic* and include iridescent, pearlised and pastel leathers, plastic, geometric crystalised lucite structures, silks dyed and printed with images of exploding nebulas and gradiated colour effects. The Miista team have triumphed in blending such a vast array of elements into an otherworldly but controlled collection that is highly visual and that would add sophisticated fun to any wardrobe.
The only problem with Miistas outrageous creations in my opinion is picking which ones i want! The Zoe lace up brogue is their most popular seller, and its easy to see why, its an edgy twist on a versatile staple. For those of you who are a little shy on the brogue side but just can’t resist these beauties, go for it. Team them with girlie dresses to soften the look or rolled up tailor trousers for a casual, too cool to care approach. For those of you who feel they leave you exposed at the ankle, try a cute pair of lacey ankle socks like these from River Island (€5) to tie the whole look together.
Another of my favorites from the collection is the Tara, once again i’m baffled as to which colour i prefer... One things for sure though these beauties are to die for!!
*Okay so Jetsonic isn’t really a word, I completely made it up but heres i would see it reading in the Oxford dictionary
